The Cheltenham Trust is an independent charity that manages five iconic venues at the heart of Cheltenham including the Pittville Pump Room, Cheltenham Town Hall, Wilson Art Gallery and Museum, Leisure at Cheltenham, and the Prince of Wales Stadium.

Following major refurbishment of The Wilson Art Gallery and Museum in 2022 a new community art gallery, vibrant arts café, artist studios, and newly refurbished galleries were created for the local community and visitors to Cheltenham to enjoy and use. Alongside a programme of exhibitions, workshops and artists in residence.

The Role – Museum Operations Manager / Duty Manager

 

You will oversee and coordinate the daily operations at The Wilson, while supporting our exciting museum and art gallery programming. Working with your team of colleagues, you’ll deliver a memorable experience for our visitors. Duties will include:

  • Coordinating and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the building, including the opening and closing procedures
  • Lead on volunteer recruitment, promoting the volunteer associate programme, interviewing candidates, matching them with appropriate roles and providing liaison and supervision.
  • Ensuring a safe, clean and a positive working and visitor environment at all times
  • Operating and monitoring safety, security, lighting and building management procedures and systems
  • Supervising our cleaning and facilities assistants
  • Monitoring art collection and building security arrangements
  • Assisting with the installation / dismantling of temporary exhibitions and museum displays
  • Setting up and operating audio-visual equipment

Our Requirements – Museum Operations Manager / Duty Manager

 

  • Experience gained in a supervisory / managerial role, ideally gained in a customer facing environment e.g., hospitality, retail, or a visitor attraction environment
  • Operations experience, with good knowledge of health, safety and security policies and procedures, including fire and security systems
  • Superb communication, interpersonal and visitor experience skills
  • Practical, hands-on approach
  • Ability to set up and take down equipment and audio / visual systems
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle multiple demands and deadlines

The Package

 

  • Permanent part time contract, working 20 hours per week 2.5 days out of 7 on a rolling rota
  • Salary in the region of £24,000, pro rata for part time workers
