The Cheltenham Trust hosts launch of Lou Beckett’s debut book at Cheltenham Town Hall

The Cheltenham Trust will welcome comedian and author Lou Beckett to Cheltenham Town Hall on Thursday 12 February at 7pm, marking the official launch of her debut book, Lessons from a Default Parent: Surviving the Front Line of Family Life (Without Losing Your Sh*t).

Taking place on publication day, the live event will see Lou in conversation with Steph Douglas, writer, podcaster and founder of Don’t Buy Her Flowers. Together, they will explore the realities of modern parenting in an honest, funny and relatable discussion centred on the idea of the ‘default parent’ – the person who quietly carries the mental load of family life.

A mother of two and former secondary school teacher, Lou draws on her own experiences to reflect on the emotional and practical demands of parenting, from endless logistics and school routines to the impact this invisible labour can have on identity, relationships and careers. The evening will expand on the themes of the book, offering audiences a chance to hear first-hand what she’s learned about rebalancing expectations and navigating family life with humour intact.

Following the discussion, Lou will be signing books in partnership with local independent Cleeve Bookshop. Tickets are £29 including a copy of Lessons from a Default Parent, or £12 ticket only. To book tickets click here.
